Description: Oriental Trading Company Recall of Coconut Bamboo Torches Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 October 15, 2001 Alert #02-501 CPSC, Oriental Trading Company Announce Recall of Coconut Bamboo Torches PRODUCT: Bamboo Torches - Oriental Trading Company of Omaha, NE is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,180 Coconut Bamboo Torches sold through its mail order catalog. The Coconut Bamboo Torch was item No. 34/483. The 54" outdoor luau torch, consists of a hollowed-out coconut shell atop a bamboo pole. (See picture below). The lamps were shipped in cardboard boxes on which the code, type of lamp, and "Made in Philippines" is written. The torches were sold nationwide from May 2001 through July 2001 for about $9.00. PROBLEM: When the torch container is filled with oil, the oil may spill and burn a consumer if the torch is used improperly, moved or jostled during use. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: No injuries have been reported. WHAT TO DO: Consumers should stop using the recalled Coconut Bamboo Torch immediately and contact Oriental Trading Company toll-free at (800) 723-6155, 24 hours a day, for information on how to receive a refund.
