Description: Arctic Cat ATV Recall Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 November 30, 2001 Alert #02-510 CPSC, Arctic Cat Corporation Announce Recall of ATVs PRODUCT: ATVs - Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 550 model year 2002 All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The Arctic Cat 500 is a four- wheeled ATV with a manual transmission. These models carry the identification "Arctic Cat" on both sides of the bodywork, inboard of the operator's knee location. The ATVs are green with "Arctic Cat 500" written on the front of the chassis by the steering control. Arctic Cat sold these ATVs nationwide from June 2001 through November 2001 for about $6,400. This recall pertains only to the ATVs that have one of the following VIN numbers: 4UF02ATV12T206459 through 4UF02ATV42T207010. The VIN number is located on the right rear corner of the frame. PROBLEM: There may be an inadequate weld on the front upper A-arm bracket. If the upper A-arm bracket separates from the frame, the rider could lose control of the vehicle and be seriously injured. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: None reported. WHAT TO DO: Consumers should contact their authorized dealer to schedule an appointment to receive a free replacement.
