Description: Reed & Barton Recall of Infant Teething Rings Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 January 10, 2002 Alert #02-518 CPSC, Reed & Barton Announce Recall of Infant Teething Rings PRODUCT: Infant Sterling Teething Ring - Reed & Barton Corp., of Taunton, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 200 Powerscourt Sterling Teething Rings, model #WX201. The model number is located on a label on the outside of the gift box, along with "Waterford Fine Silver Gifts." The silver teething ring is about 2.5 inches in diameter, and made of two halves that are soldered together at a sterling silver decorative disc. The teething ring is sold as a keepsake, but also could be used as a teething ring. Waterford® Sterling is embossed on the bottom of the teething ring. Department stores, jewelry stores and gift shops sold these teething rings from March 13, 2001 through October 25, 2001 for about $100. PROBLEM: The area where the teething ring is soldered together contains flux, which can irritate the skin or mouths of young children. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: CPSC and Reed & Barton have not received any reports of incidents. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of health problems related to the handling and ingestion of the flux. WHAT TO DO: Consumers should take these teething rings away from children immediately and return the rings to the store where purchased for a refund.
