Recall Irons WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), MBR Industries Inc. of Miami, Fla., is recalling about 40,000 electric irons. The irons' thermostats could malfunction causing the irons to overheat, which presents a fire hazard. CPSC and MBR are not aware of any injuries involving these irons. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The black, red, or beige irons have a metal base and a plastic handle. The "Pomtrex" trademark displays above the settings' menu. The iron was packaged in a cardboard box labeled in part, "POMTREX ELECTRIC AUTOMATIC IRON...MODEL NO. 600-00701." Independent discount, hardware, and variety stores nationwide sold the irons from November 1994 through September 1996 for about $7. Consumers should stop using the recalled irons immediately and return them to the stores where purchased for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call MBR at (800) 325-0015.
