FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Originally issued August 22, 1977; Revised August 27, 2001 Release # 77-092 High Chair Recall WASHINGTON, D.C. (AUG. 22) -- Century Products Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) today announced a voluntary recall of Century's non-folding 747 Command high chair. According to the Commission's staff, this chair could break at the weld which joins the metal support column with a metal seat support plate. If this should occur, the chair seat and any young child in the seat could fall to the floor. The recall involves only the non-folding 747 Command high chair in which the metal pedestal column is welded to a metal support plate fastened to the bottom of a plastic seat and involves no other chair manufactured by Century. The non-folding 747 high chair can be identified by numbers found on the back of the plastic seat. Only units bearing these numbers, 7403 through 7412, 7501 and 7502, are affected. Approximately 600 of these chairs were produced between March 1, 1974, and February 28, 1975, and distributed in Alabama, California, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, ad Pennsylvania. The retail price of the units was approximately $24.95. Consumers who have one of these high chairs should stop using it and discard or destroy the product.
